Unmarked attendance is not the same as absence. Keeping those states separate gives teachers, the office, and families a clearer picture of the day.
Decide who owns the register
Confirm the class teacher or delegated attendance owner for each class and section. Make the expected marking time clear, and decide who handles corrections or an unavailable teacher.
At the start of the day, check the selected date and roster before marking. An incorrect class or date can create confusion even when every row is filled.
Review exceptions explicitly
A daily review should distinguish completed classes, unmarked classes, and student exceptions such as approved leave. Agree how the office investigates missing records without treating every missing entry as an absence.
- Check date, class, and section
- Review leave information before marking
- Save the class register
- Verify that the save completed
- Review remaining unmarked records
Close the loop for families
Check the student's attendance view after a sample record is saved. Explain how a parent can raise a discrepancy and which school role can review it.
Keep staff check-in policies separate from student attendance. They may use different permissions, location requirements, and review processes.
